Founded in 2012, the Istanbul Montessori Institute (IME) hosts our Montessori teacher training program MITE-Istanbul. This program is the Istanbul branch of the Montessori Institute for Teacher Education (MITE), which was established in 1998 in the USA. MITE-Istanbul was accredited in 2017 by MACTE, which accredits Montessori teacher education programs worldwide. Following MITE-Istanbul’s accreditation (the first of its kind in Turkey), we are proud to say that teachers who complete our training program receive internationally-recognized American Montessori Society (AMS)-approved certificates.

Our institute provides training on an annual basis, during the summer. Our instructors consist of Montessori educators who have worked with children in Montessori classrooms for many years, have international experience and have been long-time Montessori teacher trainers. In addition to our own educational experience, we continuously follow new developments and publications in the field, and embed this knowledge within our curriculum.

Regarding MACTE:

The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) was established in 1995 in the United States to develop, support, and promote public confidence in the quality of Montessori teacher education programs that offer academic diplomas and certificates to train professional teachers and administrators for schools that provide Montessori education to students ages 0 to 3, 3 to 6, 6 to 9, and 9 to 12.

MACTE accredits Montessori teacher education programs based on two main criteria:

1) The Training Program must be able to demonstrate that it produces educators who are competent and committed to the Montessori philosophy.
2) The Training Program must have the capacity to control and improve its quality.

MACTE believes that the best way to establish standards for Montessori education in the educational community and to assure the quality of these programs is to provide education that meets these criteria. MACTE accredits the Montessori Teacher Education program itself, not the Montessori school or department or the Institute or University where the training is provided.

The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) is an international, autonomous, non-profit, accrediting body for Montessori educator training programs. MACTE is an umbrella organization of approximately 90 accredited teacher education programs.
